Peter Skidd

Peter Skidd received his BA in Philosophy from the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in New Hampshire and a MFA in Painting in 2002 from the New York Academy of Art in Manhattan. He also studied privately in Rome and Oxford and now lives in Scottsdale with his wife and three children.

Specializing in original paintings on steel and aluminum, Peter transforms raw sheets of metal into what he calls “Contemporary Dimensional Metal Wall Art”. He uses a simple sheet of steel or aluminum to begin the artistic process which includes bending, welding, grinding, painting and finally clear coating the final piece with a UV stabilized exterior polyurethane gloss. All of the work is done by the artist. “Its half painting, half sculpture” he says. Peter’s artwork is an exploration into new techniques while still drawing upon a formal education and wealth of experience. He is constantly searching for simple expressions of aesthetics. “I love the limitless avenues of possibility in metal, the three-dimensionality of the steel and simply the fun of creating art in this rigid yet flowing medium”.

In April 2007 Peter showed a sample of his popular work to the designers of ABC’s Sunday night show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”. ABC decided to showcase his work in an episode that profiled the Yazzie family and their “green” home on the Navajo Nation in Pinon, Arizona. Peter Skidd donated 9 pieces of artwork to the Yazzie family.
