Charles Duncan, a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, has
dedicated his career to challenging the sometimes limited perception of jewelry as
little more than a fine craft, by creating an innovative and exciting new line of
artwork devoted to the idea that nothing is impossible, including what has always
been considered “impossible” by the jewelry world.
Taking a sheet of 24-gauge sterling silver through a seventeen step heating and
cooling process that returns the silver to its natural crystalline state, Charles
painstakingly cuts each piece of one of a kind jewelry with an oxy-acetylene torch
into exquisitely conceived shapes designed to enhance both the silver and the
person who will eventually wear it. 14-carat gold is rolled into rods that are fused
along the edge of each piece, then polished to provide contrast: yellow to white
and high gloss to matte.
Precious stones are combined with precious gemstones, fossilized stones and
minerals to accentuate select pieces in the final step, allowing Charles to create
astoundingly original works of fine art jewelry that are as unique as they are
beautiful.
Crystalline silver is pure silver and has no impurities. It is very strong, flexible,
and will not break. Bracelets will mould to ones shape. It is very labor intensive to
create the crystalline silver which is why almost no other jewelry artist does it
